Hard Drives – A Vital Part Of A Computer
In any computer that you are using, it will have a hard drive. Hard drives are the storage component of your computer and this is where all of your information will be stored. A hard drive was first developed in’56. When computers started to be more developed in the’90s, another more advanced version of the hard drive came out to keep up with technology of computers.
Each hard drive is made up of seven basic elements. All of these elements are vital to the ability of the hard drive to function properly. The seven elements are the enclosure, spindle, platter, motor, actuator arm, the interface and logic board.
The enclosure is the least complicated of all of the pieces. This is the casing where everything is installed to or bolted to. This is where the internal elements, the spindle, the motor, the actuator and platter, are held. The logic board is on the bottom and the interface is on the backside.
The logic board serves as the instructions for the computer to follow. This allows the computer the information it needs to function. It lets it know what drive to use, lets the computer know how big the file is and helps the computer to access any operating system. This is also where the computer goes to retrieve information.
The spindle motor is a basic part that rotates the disks where date is stored. These disks are very thin and are either made of glass or aluminum.
The hard drive platter is the most important and most complicated part of the hard drive. This is where the data is written onto the hard drive. The majority of hard drives have many platters. Information is written onto a platter in a certain pattern that the drive can understand and be read. Newer platters use less space and can store even more information than drives of years past.
In addition to the hard drives of a computer, there are external hard drives that will also store information. These will typically hold more information than a computer and are used to store things as personal pictures, movies and music. An external hard drive frees up space on any computer.
A hard drive is key to a computer as it will store necessary information on a computer. With no hard drive, there is no way to store information that is necessary and vital.
